How Does Invisalign for Teens Differ From Invisalign for Adults?

Posted on 05/26/2025

If you live in Ontario, Canada, or the surrounding area, you're fortunate to be near the offices of Brampton and Burlington Orthodontics. We're one of the area's best orthodontic providers for adult Invisalign and Invisalign for teens, so if you're interested in an Invisalign treatment, we should be your first call.

Good oral health, which includes correctly aligned teeth, is integral to physical health. Research has shown that poor oral health is linked to poor overall health, so maintaining good oral health is a sound investment in your long-term well-being.

Whether it's for yourself or your teen, your smile should be the best, and we'll work to make that happen. We're passionate about your smile and want you to be, too! There's no charge for your initial consultation, and we hope you'll become part of our extended family.

The Invisalign treatment system of clear aligner trays has grown dramatically in popularity since it was introduced in 1997.

Is the Invisalign System Comfortable?

Invisalign is considered very comfortable. There are no metal wires or brackets to chafe sensitive mouth tissues, and the clear aligner trays are virtually invisible.

Is Everyone a Candidate for the Invisalign Treatment?

Generally, most people are candidates for the Invisalign system, but it will depend on the degree of correction you need and your age. Your orthodontist will advise you if you're a good candidate or will make recommendations if not. Sometimes, Invisalign is combined with another treatment if the amount of correction warrants it.

Is Adult Invisalign the Same as Teen Invisalign?

Invisalign for teens and adults is mostly the same, but teen Invisalign is tailored to teens' lifestyle and growth factors, which the adult version isn't.

What are the Differences Between Teen Invisalign and Invisalign for Adults?

The Invisalign clear aligner trays are very similar whether for teens or adults, but the teen Invisalign trays include the following:

  • An optional compliance indicator that tracks the number of hours the aligner trays are worn to ensure the teen receives the maximum benefit from the treatment program.
  • Eruption guidance indicator shows the presence of permanent teeth even if they've not fully erupted through the gumline.
  • A growth factor that may shorten the treatment time needed in case the treatment is progressing more rapidly than expected.
  • More frequent replacement of aligners.
