Tips for Taking Care of LightForce Braces

Tips for Taking Care of LightForce Braces

Light force braces aren't something Luke Skywalker or Kylo Ren wore as a teenager. Instead, they are braces created by a 3D printer, which is almost as cool. These uniquely produced braces require special care, and Discover Orthodontics wants you to know exactly how.

Cleaning 3D Printed Ceramic Braces

Light force braces are made from ceramic, which is really cool by itself. The fact that a company managed to find a way to 3D print ceramic is even more fascinating. Because these brackets are essentially ceramic, you can clean them just as you would any other type of braces and just like you would clean your own teeth. Brush well, and floss with the special orthodontic flossers your orthodontist gives you.

Avoid Sticky and Chewy Foods

Like traditional wire bracket braces, avoid sticky foods like gum and chewy candies. Avoid anything that can create big sticky bits of food in your braces. Also, try to avoid really chewy foods such as tough steaks and hard bread. If you're not sure what is safe to eat with your Light force braces, ask your orthodontist. Most orthodontists provide a list of "can" and "can't" foods to their patients with braces.

This includes patients who get Invisalign in Burlington. Patients with Invisalign from Burlington clinics need to clean their clear braces, too. The only difference is that Invisalign patients can remove their braces and clean them with a toothbrush before reinserting them.

Don't Use Your Teeth to Open Tough Packaging

Ceramic 3D-printed braces are extremely tough and durable. There's no doubt about that. However, you still shouldn't use your teeth to open tough packaging with these braces on. You can cause packaging to become lodged in the braces, or you can damage a bracket or two if the packaging materials are tough to open. Use scissors or other means to open packaging, not your teeth with braces.
